Internet Safety

The Internet can be a great tool for teaching and learning as well as offering access to valuable resources for our children. However, there are also hidden dangers in which parents, educators and our students need to be aware. The links below may serve as a helpful guide to Internet Safety.

Tips for Parents

  1. Talk to your child and set clear guidelines for Internet use.
  2. Monitor your child's Internet use. Place the computer in a common area where the screen is visible.
  3. If your child belongs to a social forum such as MySpace.com or Facebook.com, check their posting to make sure it does not contain personal contact information or inappropriate content. Check the pages that are linked, since these pages may also contain inappropriate content or information that would identify your child.
  4. Make sure that your child understands that he or she should not provide personal information or give out a password except to a parent or trusted adult.
  5. Your child should let you know if anyone says, writes, or does something that makes them uncomfortable.
