Mrs. Harding, friendly
cafeteria worker at NIS, recently retired after many years of
service. She will be missed by all of the NIS family.

On October 3, 2007 NIS
and NMS students participated in a pep rally to support the Wildcat
Football Team. It was decided during the rally that NIS students
generated the most school spirit with cheers and pompoms. The
Wildcats went on to win against the Bluestone Trojans with a final score
of 46 to 6.

NIS teachers recently
organized an event called Science by Van, which exposes students to a
variety of hands-on science activities. Special thanks to the
volunteers that assisted students during this event.

NIS students got a rare
treat on Friday November 30, 2007. Students were able to see a
great performance from African Acrobats.

The NIS Mentoring Experience was a program offered
to students during the summer of 2007.
Their goals were to build character, leadership, positive
behavior, academic success, and a fun atmosphere for growth. The group took some great trips and would like to share their
pictures.

The Longwood Center for
the Visual Arts' Main Street Gallery, Festival of Lights, is a
collaborative project by the art students in Nottoway County Public
Schools. Mrs. Cary would like to thank the fifth and sixth grade
NIS artists for all their hard work on their Chinese Zodiac Animals
and/or their team participation on the Chinese Floor Cloth. Mrs.
Cary adds, "You have created outstanding projects, and I am proud
of each and every one of you."
The show opens on
Monday, February 18th and ends on Saturday, March 22nd. Gallery
hours are Monday through Saturday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm. The
exhibit is located on the lower level of the LCVA. Mrs. Cary hopes
NIS students will bring family and friends to Farmville, VA to view the
front window display, as well as the 2008 Annual Youth Art Exhibition.

Nottoway Intermediate
School was proud to present at the February School Board Meeting.
Mrs. Martin and several fifth grade students gave a demonstration on the
use of the multimedia Jeopardy game while Mrs. Cary and division
art teachers displayed pictures from the LCVA exhibit.

The 21st Century
Learning Community Grant recently sponsored a rare treat for NIS
students. Students were able to watch an in-house performance of
Chinese acrobats. The acrobats dazzled students with super human
feats of strength, agility and coordination. After the
performance, students were able to experience Chinese cuisine to
complete this cultural event.

were able to participate in the Art Open House at Longwood University's
LCVA. Parents, teachers and School Board members were able to
participate and support these talented students.

On May 27, 2008 faculty and staff
celebrated the annual Read-up in the Park. Students participated
in a variety of activities and got a chance to enjoy some good books in
a relaxing, outdoor setting.
