Teacher Tip: Scavenger Hunt: Recycle and Read!
Each Monday, ask
students and co-workers to bring in last week's local newspaper. Make a
list of names, events, places, or phrases/words found in the newspaper for
students to find during a timed scavenger hunt. Use only the front page,
the sports page, or the entire newspaper, depending on the grade level and
interest level. The first group to find all items on the list receives a reward.
Students may realize how interesting the news can be while staying up to date on
current events, or news from the past such as "NC State won the first Men's
Basketball Tournament in 1954, 82-80".
