Principal's Note: Welcome back to a fantastic new school year! We are thrilled to see our hallways filled with smiling faces and eager learners. Thank you for partnering with us to make this week a smooth and successful start for all our students.

Important Dates & Upcoming Events

• August 31-September 14: VALLSS Testing for grades 1-4 (Fall)
• September 2: CPS Lego STEM Night at CPS- 5pm to 7pm. Dinner will be provided. (Flyer will be sent home with additional information)
• September 4: Schools Closed-Labor Day Holiday
• September 7: Schools Closed – Labor Day Holiday

What We Are Learning This Week

• Pre-K: Practicing School routines, socialization through sharing and playing
• Kindergarten: Practicing school routines, learning letter names, and counting objects up to 5, HMH Structured Literacy
• 1st & 2nd Grade: Building classroom community rules, exploring simple addition patterns, and HMH Structured Literacy
• 3rd Grade: HMH reading, reviewing place value in math
• 4th Grade: Comparing and ordering whole numbers in math, HMH reading

Quick Reminders
• Morning Drop-Off: Please remember that student drop-off begins at 7:30 AM. Your child will be tardy starting at 7:55 AM.
• Transportation Changes: Any changes to afternoon bus or pick-up routines must be received by 1:45 p.m.
• Lunch Menus: Check the Nottoway County Public Schools portal for daily cafeteria options.

Cougar Character Corner
This month's focus trait is Responsibility. Shout-out to all our students who showed great responsibility by walking quietly in the hallways and keeping their classrooms neat and organized on day one!

I hope everybody had an amazingly awesome Spring Break!! While breaks are always great, we are excited to come back tomorrow and start our final push of the school year.

Report cards from the 3rd Nine Weeks will come home Thursday (April 9) this week. They will also be available in the Parent Portal.

There is NO AFTERSCHOOL 21st Century program on Thursday (April 9). We have our monthly faculty meeting. There is still morning 21st Century that day.

Next Tuesday (April 14) is our April FeedMore.

Also next Tuesday is our 3rd Grade SOL Night.

We look forward to welcoming all students and staff back tomorrow for lots of teaching and learning!!!!

Mrs. Miles, a fourth grade teacher, grew up and graduated from NHS! She came back to long term substitute a couple years ago before earning her undergraduate and graduate degrees (this year) to become a full time teacher.

VA250 Passport: 70 Leading History Attractions in Virginia Launch First-of-its-Kind Statewide Commemorative Passport in Celebration of America’s 250th

The Virginia Department of Education is proud to announce the Virginia 250 Passport in partnership with the VA250 Commission and supported by the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC). In 2026, the United States marks its 250th anniversary. This historic milestone—extraordinary in our lifetimes—provides the ideal moment to come together, better understand our shared past, and renew our commitment to the pursuit of A More Perfect Union.

In partnership, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC), Colonial Williamsburg, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission created the Virginia 250 Passport.

This commemorative passport is a history travel guide, discount book, and 250th keepsake! From November 11, 2025, through December 31, 2026, participants can collect unique stamps at 70 history sites and museums across the Commonwealth, receive special pricing on admission, and enter to win prizes. Passports are available at no cost at the VMHC and select locations across the state.
