September 2025 - Vol. 1, Issue 1

Dear Parents, Families, and Students,

Welcome to the first edition of NCPS Transition to Success, a monthly newsletter designed to support students and families as they navigate the exciting and sometimes challenging journey from high school to the world beyond. We understand that every student has unique strengths and needs, and our goal is to provide the resources, tips, and encouragement to ensure each student is prepared for success in their post-secondary endeavors. Each month, we’ll offer insights to help your student build confidence, find their path, and achieve their goals. We’re here to make sure that every student—regardless of their journey— feels empowered and ready to succeed in the next chapter of their life. Thank you for joining us on this important journey. We’re excited to partner with you and your family as we support your student toward success!

Theme of the Month:

Building Self-Advocacy At Home Activities: 🧸 Elementary School Choice-Making Practice: Let your child choose between two snacks (“Do you want apple slices or crackers?”). This builds independence and confidence in decision-making. 🎒 Middle School Advocacy Role-Play: Practice how to ask a teacher for help. For example, you pretend to be the teacher, and your child practices saying, “I don’t understand this—can you explain it another way?” 🎓 High School Meal Independence: Have your teen plan and prepare a simple meal (like sandwiches or pasta) for the family. They practice planning, following directions, and independence

✨ Building self-advocacy is about giving your child the tools to express their wants, needs, and goals—one small step at a time.
