TRANSITION TO SUCCESS

July 2026 Vol. 1, Issue 11

Welcome to the 11th Edition of the NCPS Transition to Success Newsletter! Each month, we highlight a key life skill to support students as they grow into independent, confident, and capable young adults.

Theme of the Month: Celebrating Self-Determination

For July, our focus is on Celebrating Self-Determination. Students are encouraged to reflect on the goals they have achieved, share something they are proud of, and set a new goal for themselves. Taking time to celebrate accomplishments helps students build confidence, recognize their strengths, and develop important self-determination skills that support success at school, home, and in the community.

Families are encouraged to support their students by celebrating achievements, encouraging them to discuss what they are proud of, and helping them set meaningful goals for the future. These conversations can strengthen self-confidence, decision-making skills, and independence, while reinforcing the importance of ongoing growth and learning.

At Home Activities:

Elementary School

- My Success Star: Draw or decorate a star and write one thing you are proud of on each point. Share with your family.

- I Can Do It! Chart: Create a checklist of tasks that you can do independently. Check them off each day.

Middle School

- My Achievement Timeline: Create a timeline of accomplishments from the past year. Include school, home, sports, or personal achievements.

- Vision Board: Use magazines and drawings to create a board that represents future goals and dreams.

High School

- Future Planning: Discuss your plans for after high school with your family and identify one step you can take this month.

- Advocacy Practice: Practice explaining your strengths, interests, accommodations, or future goals to a family member.

Quick Tip:

Celebrate progress, not just big achievements. Take a few minutes each week to ask your child, "What are you most proud of this week?" Small conversations about accomplishments help build confidence and independence.
