NHS GEAR UP Seniors 2027
Are you planning to take the SAT? I certainly hope so. While some schools are test-optional, others require you to submit an SAT score when you apply for admission. Also, when you are applying for scholarships, you may find that some scholarship committees request your SAT scores when considering you as a potential scholarship recipient. So even if you are planning to attend a two-year college or trade school, it may benefit you in the long run to have SAT scores on hand for scholarship applications.
If you plan to take the test and want to save your cash, come see your School Counselor. We can provide you with an SAT fee waiver and save you over $68 AND when you take the test using an SAT fee waiver you will qualify for college application fee waivers as well. So go ahead, test your knowledge and keep your money in your pocket.
I always suggest to my students to take the SAT test at least twice (unless you get an awesome score the first time...then don't stress yourself out retaking the test).
Here are links to register for the SAT (don't forget to grab a fee waiver code from your School Counselor before registering), SAT test dates for the school year, and general information about college admissions testing that is just down right good to know.
If you have questions be sure to reach out to your School Counselor and ask.
SAT test dates
SAT test fees
Register for the SAT (you do have to create a College Board account to register and test. If you need help, let us know)
Note: NHS is offering school day testing this year, but if you need to test again or are not quite ready to test on the NHS School Day SAT date, GEAR UP is here to help. We will be providing transportation to nearby SAT (and ACT) test centers on certain dates. Let us know if you are interested by clicking here.

NHS GEAR UP Seniors 2027
As we continue to honor YOU, our NHS GEAR UP senior class, I want to share one of my absolute favorite tools to use when working with seniors is the Opportunities Guide and Workbook. It is packed with truly useful checklists and information to help you navigate senior year. Hard copies of the workbook will be here soon and we can discuss this gem of a resource in depth, but in the meantime...here is a digital copy to help you set the pace for all that is ahead of you and help you Level Up for Senior Year. Go ahead, click the link and check it out.
Be sure to see pages 29 and 30 of the workbook for VA public and private college SAT and GPA statistics as well as admissions prices for the colleges in which you are planning to apply.

At Nottoway High School, the $10 annual school/class dues are collected each academic year to help fund class-wide events, student activities, and operational expenses tied to a student's graduation cohort.
National Honor Society Dues
$10 10th – 11th Grade
$15 12th Grade
What Dues Fund
• Class Activities & Events: Dues support class-level milestones throughout high school, including homecoming floats, class t-shirts, rallies, and senior week activities.
• Prom & Graduation Expenses: Collecting dues incrementally across all four years helps offset the overall costs of venue bookings, decorations, security, diplomas, and ceremony logistics.
School Good Standing Requirements: Maintaining paid-up dues ensures students remain in good financial standing with the school.
Key Requirements
Note:
Paying your yearly dues is required to participate in major school privileges. For instance, Nottoway High School requires student dues to be fully paid and up to date in order to purchase tickets for or attend Prom & Homecoming dances and other milestone events.
Student Parking
Parking permits are $40 for the school year. Students will be assigned a parking spot and must park in the assigned spot on a daily basis.
For specific questions regarding a student's current account balance or payment deadlines, you can reach out directly to Karen Langhorne, Bookkeeper at Nottoway High School @

This week at NHS!
Dear Nottoway High School Families,
Student attendance is a very important part of the education process. This message introduces our school attendance protocol regarding extracurricular event eligibility for the 2026–27 academic year. To support student success and maintain high engagement, attendance tracking begins on the first day of school, August 19th, and accumulates continuously throughout the year. If a student exceeds the maximum allowed number of unexcused absences or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) days prior to an event, they will lose eligibility to attend or participate in events and athletics.
See the attached Flyer for the specific details.
