TRANSITION TO SUCCESS
March 2026 Vol. 1, Issue 7
Welcome to the 7th Edition of the NCPS Transition to Success Newsletter! Each month, we highlight a key life skill to support students as they grow into independent, confident, and capable young adults.
Theme of the Month: Exploring Careers Locally
For March, our focus is on exploring careers locally. Learning about jobs in the community helps students connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities and helps them discover their interests, strengths, and future possibilities. When students see the types of jobs that exist around them, it can spark curiosity and motivation for their future goals. Encouragement, conversation, and real-world experiences help students begin thinking about their future and the many paths available to them.
At Home Activities:
Elementary School
Career Scavenger Hunt: While running errands, have your child spot different workplaces and talk about the jobs people might have there.
Community Helpers Chat: Ask your child what different workers do and how they help the community.
Middle School
Career Interest Chat: Discuss with your child the jobs they find interesting and the skills those jobs may require.
Business Observation: At stores or restaurants, notice and discuss the different jobs people are doing.
High School
Career Research: Have your student look up a job they are interested in and find out:
Education or training required
Typical job duties
Skills needed
Quick Tip:
Career conversations don't have to be long or formal. Use everyday moments like trips to the store or watching TV to talk about different jobs and the skills people use. Small conversations can spark big ideas about your child's future!
