Yay! Hooray! We are welcoming you back on a 2- Hour Delay!
Nottoway County Public Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, January 8th due to weather conditions. Instruction starts at 10am for Blackstone and Crewe Primary and the complex schools will start at 11am. Please remember your child is tardy 5 minutes before the start times listed. We can't wait to see you!

Jack Frost paid us an icy visit, and our schools have turned into winter wonderlands! For everyone's safety, we’ll be closed Tuesday, January 7th for students and staff due to icy conditions.

School’s out for….. SNOW!
That’s right, Nottoway County Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 6th due to inclement weather conditions. Enjoy the extra day of break! We will monitor conditions for Tuesday.

NCPS Students, Families, and Staff:
We know you are watching the weather just like our team to determine a plan for Monday. Here are answers to keep everyone informed:
1. Yes, we are actively monitoring weather forecasts as they develop and change.
2. Having an extra day as a snow day would be great! We all agree!
3. We haven't made a final decision yet about a closure, but will let you know very soon.
4. You can help us prepare for a snow day by wearing your PJs inside out, flushing ice cubes, doing a snow dance, and monitoring our school website, app, and looking for notifications through our messaging platform.
5. Finally, we will make a final notification no later than Sunday at 4pm- be on the lookout!

As school resumes on Monday, please remember to stop for school buses with flashing lights—no matter the direction. The safety of our students is a top priority, and failing to stop can have serious consequences.
Be especially vigilant during the peak hours of 6:30-9:00am and 2:30-4:00pm, when buses are transporting students. Let’s work together to ensure kids travel safely to and from school! 🚌

We have been made aware of a social media message regarding a possible threat to schools. Although Nottoway has not been directly named in posts, we have been in contact with the Sheriff's Office and have increased police presence at our schools. We recognize this message is concerning and we want to reassure you the safety of students and staff is our top priority. As a reminder, if you see something, say something.

This message is to inform our NCPS families of dismissal times on early dismissal days. On early dismissal days, elementary schools will dismiss at 11:30 am, and the complex schools will dismiss at 12:30 pm. If you have any questions, please contact your child's principal.

As of 2:54 pm this afternoon, our buses have left the elementary schools thus creating delays in afternoon drop-offs. This will create a delay in the dismissal of buses from the NCPS complex. We apologize for the inconvenience but appreciate your understanding. We had a great first day at NCPS!

Dear Cougar Community,
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I am excited to see you all as we welcome teachers and staff back on August 12, and students return on Wednesday, August 21.
As you may have heard, Governor Youngkin issued an Executive Order (#33) that requires a “cell phone-free education in Virginia’s schools… [from] ‘bell-to-bell’, meaning phones should be turned off and stored away from the first bell at the start of the school day to begin instructional time until the dismissal bell rings at the end of the academic school day. ‘Bell-to-bell’ includes lunch and time in between class periods.” NCPS staff members will enforce and abide by this mandate. Students with cell phones, earbuds, headphones, and other devices that work similar to a cell phone will have to turn the device over to an adult if that device is visible and/or on during the instructional day.
We at NCPS remain committed to “Expectations of Excellence for Excellence in Education.” Because we believe that every child can learn, we are committed to 1) challenging our students with rigorous activities and assignments that are aligned to the state’s learning standards, 2) holding ourselves and our students accountable for attaining - at minimum - 90% in everything we do (attendance, achievement, etc.) 100% of the time, and 3) communicating frequently with our students, parents, and employees.
As always, my door is open. Please do not hesitate to contact me - by phoning the school board office - with any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions you may have to help us make NCPS the best school division in the region, state, country, and world!!!
Sincerely,
Dr. Tameshia Grimes,
Division Superintendent
